For this project, I used Virtualbox to create a virtual machine to run Lubuntu Linux.

I selected Lubuntu because it’s a relatively lightweight linux distribution and my laptop’s hardware is relatively underwhelming, thus my virtual machine’s hardware configuration can only be so strong.

I configured the hardware virtualization to mimic a system roughly half as powerful as my computer which is still more than enough to comfortably handle Lubuntu.

For personal use, I like virtual machines for their relative safety. They allow me to test programs and configurations that might in a reasonably isolated environment so that any problems that arise won’t affect the primary computer that’s hosting the VM.
